Leslie, Amy, Will, Rob, and Joe

First Cousins This 40 page Photo Genealogy was created in 2008 by Betty Southard Stokes for Leslie & Amy Stokes and Will, Rob & Joe Southard. The blog's purpose is to record our family's history and future. We are very proud of our ancestors. Many toiled and struggled to pass a better life to their children and their children's children. We thank each and everyone for all they have contributed to our lives. Most of our ancestors came to the Colonies in the late 1600s and early 1700s. We note that if even one of these brave folk had not crossed the ocean, none of us would be here today. We pledge to continue this blog and pass it on to future generations! The Age of Computers

In 1969, university research labs traded information, but this was a very select group. In 1970, Stanford University & BBN in Cambridge, Massachusetts made it possible for two computers to talk to each other. In the 1980s, personal computers became readily available for home and office use. They were basically simple game devices and word processors. In 1986, Al Gore sponsored legislation to open inter-connected computers. In 1991, the ban on commercial use was lifted and the worldwide web began.

1999, Sweet Briar College

Leslie earned a BA in Studio Art at Sweet Briar College. She was into etchings & prints. Leslie has a master of divinity (MDiv Theology) from Emory University's Chandler Divinity School. She served as a chaplain at NYU Langone Medical Research Hospital (Sloan-Kettering) in New York City. She is in their scholarship program (only 3 selected). Leslie was the only one from the United States. The other two were from Europe. Presently serving as associate pastor at Union Church, Berea, KY. Also setting up a pastoral care program in that community.
